Wallboxes are technically remote selectors for a jukebox. Without a jukebox the wallbox cannot play music. They were advertised and promoted as providing convenience and access to customers, especially in restaurants with multiple rooms and diners with booths.
Jukeboxes played the songs in the order they appeared in the selector mechanism, not in the order the songs were selected.
Wallboxes became very popular with operators not because they increased the number of plays on the jukebox but more because they increased the number of nickels in the coin box! With wallboxes spread throughout an establishment, customers would often select the same song. As a result, many nickels would accumulate for the operator to profit until that particular song was played once. This was based on the fact that most people only selected the "top ten" tunes. Customers did not know the technical operation of the jukeboxes/wallboxes and did not care much as long as they were able to hear their song before they left the establishment. Multiple selections of the same song was played only once.
